so, as it turns out, the drywall crew STILL HAS NOT FINISHED. yes, this is true. the floor guy is starting tomorrow though and we're still moving in next weekend. which means, we're really not moving in cuz we can't until the walls are done.
we have to leave our rental by the end of the month, so its gonna be living in the van with trips up to the toilet and use of a makeshift kitchen in the backyard. on the warm and soothing side, i've got a hot tub arriving tonight or tomorrow which means i will have a corner of respite by the end of the week.
woo-fucking-hoo.
you know, the only reason i bought a house was so i could have a hottub. so i guess we can pretty much call it done, ditch the house and it'll be all good. there is the lack of an internet connection, but once i have that set up with the wireless modem, i might as well just be a hobo in my own backyard. string up some rope lights, play some musak, pour some cocktails and as i sit amidst all my playa covered outdoor living gear, it'll feel just like home.
so, its mostly about the house these days, and thusly this is mostly about the house these days. i could talk about the naked photos sean took of me, which subsequently ended up on my daughters laptop, but i won't go into that now.. i think drywall is alot more interesting. n'est-ce pas?
namely, managing these vendors has become difficult. they are late, overbudget and doing shitty work. i can plead, bitch, harass, but in the end i need them to finish and leave. it might not be the quality i'd like, but at least i'll have walls, right ?
every bad thing that could happen with this remodel has just about happened..almost. its been series of half-avoided debacles and compromises. i am most definitely learning to give it up for whatever will be will be, que sera sera..
little vox note here: i love it! the super big type and over the top icons really do it for me. its super user friendly and fun!
anyway, its almost the end of my week. the drywall crew is in the house working, i have some design work to do today, a massage and then, sweet weekend. it'll be the first in awhile. since we can't do much until the wall guys are out, its perfect timing to go to a friends weekend campout on bainbridge. i'm very excited to not have to worry about la house, or much of anything besides relaxing and playing with friends!
there's something about regained time that has a very sweet feeling to it. hours granted to me by surprise are my favorite. like this morning, my 9:30 client canceled cuz she was vomiting. poor her, but yay me : ) all of a sudden I have 3 more hours today then i thought. this translated into time in the garden, tidying my desk and writing a bit here for my audience of two : )
love you!
woohoo.
i know, how many tools out there, and i finally jump on here? cuz its so pretty, that's why. and easy. i like the inline ajax editor..very sweet : )
anyhow, now everyone can see that right now all i can think about is my HOUSE. that's right..its fairly all-comsuming these days. most people are enjoying their summer, fun weekends, trips afar, days at the beach, hanging low.
i've spent the last 3 weeks up to my eyes in 100 year old dust. i knew this house needed some work, but it has turned out to be so much more.
for starters, we showed up on the day we were take possession and the former owner was still living there and had done little to pack, find a new place or leave. we returned the next day to a bit of progress..two days later i lost my patience and we started taking off doors and windows and busting down walls. he got the point.
throughout the next 5 days of "helping' him clear our new home of all his shit, we discovered boxes and boxes of gross porno, bdsm gear, crack pipes, crack, syringes, crusty underwear, guns, used condoms, human feces. the list goes on and on. we spent 2 days taking truck load after truck load of shit to the dump, all together 12000 lbs. we also had the house blessed and exorcised because there was some seriously spooky energy afoot in that 100 year old house..not to mention former said owner was a major creep and had apparently been practicing some kind of black magic in the house.
3 weeks later, we've demoed and rebuilt a kitchen, a sunroom and a 2nd bath. the drywall guys started today (that's a story in itself). next week the floor guys come in and our floors (old growth fir) will be refinished to their glory. there gonnna be splendiferous and i cannot wait to see them :)
after that, it will be clean enough to live in...we won't have a functioning kitchen or bathroom yet. but at least it will be CLEAN : ) after that, it;ll be working around ourselves, building a bathroom, a makeshift kitchen and making it home.
the last 3 weeks have seriously been 3 of the absolutely hardest weeks of my life, and that says alot.
i'll post photos soon when i can deal ; )
